Hidden Beauty: Giants of the City

Hidden Beauty grew from an unexpected appreciation of Brutalist and Modernist architecture. I was drawn to buildings often overlooked or dismissed as harsh and utilitarian, yet I found something compelling in their forms, patterns and individual character.

The series draws a parallel between how we perceive buildings and people. Both can be judged by their outward appearance, while the individuality and character beneath the surface go unnoticed.

By isolating each structure against an expansive grey sky, I remove the distractions of the surrounding city, reducing the buildings to almost two-dimensional forms reminiscent of architectural drawings. Presented as individual portraits, their distinctive shapes, repeating patterns and subtle variations reveal a character and beauty that might otherwise go unnoticed.
